Description

Allen Ginsberg/William Blake – Songs Of Innocence And Experience (MGM Records ‎ – FTS-3083, USA, 1970).
Alby of the American poet and the writer beatnik Allen Ginzberg, written down in 1969. Dl of record Ginzberg sang fragments from the eponymous illustrated poetic collection by the English poet of the 18th century William Blake, having put them on the folk based on a tool idiom, consisting of plain songs and accompaniment performed by a great number of jazz musicians. Among participants of recording of the album there are a trumpeter Dawn Cherry, the arranger / pianist Bob Dorou, the multi-instrumentalist John Scholl, the drummer Elvin Jones and Peter Orlovsky - the satellite on life and Ginzbergs colleague - which sang and helped to be a producer of record with the British andegraudny writer Barry Miles.
Alby - one of the most known attempts to set to music words from the collection of songs of Blake. Ginzberg, having studied a rhyme and the size of verses, considered that they initially intended for singing and that musical representation of Blake could be reproduced approximately. The subjects investigated in verses by Blake - the childhood and ill treatment, organized religion, an institutionalization and poverty - are connected with Ginzberg spiritually. On creation of this project he was inspired by religious vision of Blake and protest activity of the National congress of Democratic party of 1968 and also rock music of a counterculture of that era.
Alby was for the first time released in 1970 on labels of MGM Records and Verve Forecast Records, was on sale badly, but gained recognition of critics. The release of other records of Blake planned for Fantasy Records did not take place. Plastinks
practically in excellent condition. Rare.
